Key tenets

Rakettitiede was founded on more than just sarcastic jokes: our most important values include respect for others, transparency, professionalism, collaboration and learning – not to mention our “no BS” attitude. Is it all just cutesy rhetoric or something real and genuine?

Our employees own Rakettitiede, which is why our central, value-based tenets have been jointly jotted down in our ownership strategy.

First, we don’t hire everything that moves – our roster only includes experienced consultants. In addition, we avoid talking BS among our own coterie as well as with our clients. We don’t deal in resource trade, but put people above growth and profits. As the icing on the gateau, we offer a good salary and opportunities for professional development.

Hardcore experts and an assortment of brainiacs

We only hire senior-level software developers and architects, meaning our shuttle is packed with smart and experienced people.

Coding isn’t always rocket science, but there are differences between professionals. Our consultants’ toolbox is full of modern-day technologies and solutions, which can be supplemented with new instruments whenever necessary. With brainiacs and techies as colleagues, you can’t help but grow as a professional.

“Experienced colleagues are an enormous help when it comes to any work-related questions.” Rocket scientist #34

“It’s great to have coworkers who are much more experienced. It gives me insight into things I want to learn next.” Rocket scientist #36

If you constantly suffer from the Monday blues and find clients getting on your nerves, it will gradually begin to reflect badly on the quality of your work. Programming is creative work, and it needs to be rewarding if the goal is to create solutions and code the client is willing to pay for. That’s why rocket scientists get to choose the projects they want to be involved in.

“My colleagues are experts in their field, and the tasks are challenging enough to keep things interesting.” Rocket scientist #38

No BS

“Rakettitiede’s no BS attitude was very appealing,” rocket scientist #33 once said, reminiscing about the first steps of his career as a rocket scientist – this view has since then been shared by many.

The Rocket lacks complex boss pyramids and rigid bureaucracy and promotes transparency and openness. We strive to minimise all empty jargon and tell it like it is – both among ourselves and with clients.

“It’s amazing that the company doesn’t hide anything, everything’s transparent.” Rocket scientist #40

Clients appreciate our rocket scientists not only for their expertise but also for the fact that they work well together with others. This is probably due to how we treat our clients: we are fair, open and reliable.

No bouncy castles or table hockey

Since time immemorial, the basic idea of Rakettitiede has been to offer our great employees a great salary for the great work they do. This idea stems directly from the huge productivity differences between developers: software is coded not by an anonymous resource but by a human. A skilled developer or a small team of great professionals may produce finished services in the same amount of time it takes others to fire and paint an army of terracotta coders.

“Numero uno: the salary. Product companies don’t even come close.” Rocket scientist #34

On board the Rocket, everyone gets what they deserve, meaning that 50 % of the amount invoiced to the client ends up in the consultant’s coin purse. Our pay is significantly higher than the average salaries in the industry – and you don’t have to work overtime to achieve it. We are able to offer a fair salary since we save on other things, such as ball pits and office walls.

“The company may not have a fancy penthouse office, but then again I can afford to pay off my mortgage.” Rocket scientist #31

Our salary model is based on the performance of the individual, not so much on mutual rapport. If and when employees own part of the company, the success of the business (return on shares) becomes more important.  Every rocket scientist has the opportunity to buy themselves a piece of the Rocket and thus influence its course (read more about pour happy owners here: Stocking up on shares – many rocket scientists are also shareholders).

“For me, the opportunity to invest in the company and being able to influence the business was an important reason for joining Rakettitiede.”  Rocket scientist #36

Aiming for growth, not corporationalisation

We strive for growth because it allows us to have more diverse job descriptions and provides us with new challenges.

We’re in the business of selling software creators for money, but we’re not a faceless consultancy.

“Everyone cares for one another. This is more like a small family than some obnoxious agency.” Rocket scientist #39

When it comes to the future of our business and the quality of our coders, we know we’re on the right course: we will continue working in demanding software development and have no intention of going corporate.

We also intend to maintain our “no BS” attitude and the wonderfully cutesy sarcastic mindset we love so dear. And most importantly: even as we aim for growth, we always put our people first.
