The ERP system provider Fondion is committed to delivering time savings and ease of use to its customers – the very benefits it also sought as Rakettitiede’s client. The collaboration was a valuable first step in finding common ways of working together.
Fondion is a fast-growing construction service platform. The ERP system enhances calculation efficiency and enables real-time cost monitoring, while consistently delivering a service that’s user-friendly, intuitive and time-saving. To strengthen the benefits even further, the system was streamlined with the help of Rakettitiede, who had already proved its mettle in a previous project for Fondion.

CHALLENGE
The interface lacked consistency, which required the harmonisation of various workflows. This alignment was crucial to delivering top-notch service to end customers, accelerating developer productivity and simplifying the onboarding process for new employees.
Communication skills plus technical know-how equals success
In the project, Rakettitiede’s Jarno Laine familiarised himself with the code base and, together with the team, established a clear roadmap for the future. New tools were also introduced to speed up the work.
Fondion CTO Kimi Päivärinta remarks that the overall vision was clear from the start. The sales process and the project’s execution were seamless:
“We talked for an hour, came up with some good ideas, and kicked off the project. Jarno immersed himself in the code base for a week or so, after which we reviewed the progress together. Jarno worked independently, consistently keeping everyone up to date. He was well received by our developers, who really appreciated the collaboration. This was undoubtedly partly due to Jarno’s keen visual sense: he strives for both aesthetic appeal and functional success,” Päivärinta says.

SOLUTION
A Rakettitiede developer joined our team to speed up the development process through sparring, coding and assisting in decision-making. The collaboration lasted three months.
Coding, discussions, new solutions and sparring
Päivärinta says Jarno played a dual role as both as a developer and project manager, striking the perfect balance between technical expertise and communication skills. Instead of questioning existing solutions, Jarno focused on their context. He also receives kudos for driving progress through discussions and innovative approaches.
“We have a wealth of expertise and diverse opinions, which can sometimes lead to indecisiveness. In such situations, we welcome someone with extensive experience to determine what is worth pursuing. What we needed was a nudge in the right direction, allowing us to then develop it further on our own,” Päivärinta says.
FINAL RESULT
The user interface was harmonised further. We identified what was already working well, pinpointed areas for improvement, and established a unified approach for resolving future issues. At the same time, we also documented the work in one centralised location and introduced some new tools.
Now that some time has passed since the project, it’s clear that onboarding new Designer Trainees at Fondion has become easier, thanks to the groundwork laid. With the storybook, design library and unified practices in place, the potential of designers is maximised, and their proposals can be implemented effectively.”
“Find good people and things just start rolling. For me, the collaboration was valuable because it streamlined the process, made everything easier and saved a lot of time. Would we have known how to do it ourselves? Yes. Did we have the time? No.”
