Ennakoi.fi is Caverion's online service for reporting and handling proactive safety work. Rakettitiede was there to define and implement the system based on the needs of end users and the legacy solutions to be replaced.
CHALLENGE
Creating and further utilizing reports made with old methods was difficult because the data generated by the systems was not suitable for humans, let alone technology.
Reporting the occupational safety
A safe working environment is created through proactive safety work, so risk assessment and making safety observations are particularly important for Caverion.
Moving away from the outdated practice of handling paper files and Excel charts, the aim was to leap into a reporting method where end users could easily and quickly assess risks directly from their smartphones or laptops while visiting sites.
Even the reuse of reports made with old methods was difficult because the emails sent by the systems contained unclear number codes, and integrating into the collected data was challenging due to the lack of easy-to-use interfaces.

Office macro-based documents were replaced with a responsive and dynamic website that organizes information and assists in report creation at construction sites.
A notification channel for proactive safety work accessible to everyone
The technical project team of Ennakoi.fi service consisted of one rocket scientist whose task was to define and implement the system (UX, front end, back end, integrations, and operating environment) based on the needs of end users and the legacy solutions to be replaced. The old macro-based Office documents were replaced with a responsive and dynamic website that organizes information and assists in report creation at construction sites.
FINAL RESULT
The information flow and quality related to occupational safety as well as reporting activity improved with the service.
With more traditional usage in mind, the system was enhanced to automatically compile organization-specific Excel sheets. Service-oriented architecture was enabled by defining and implementing XML/REST interfaces, which facilitate access to the collected data for other systems.
As a simple but essential part, the emails originating from reports were reconsidered. For instance, the event type is now displayed directly in the email subject line without the need to open the message separately.
